Broombridge
A Radio walk around the Broombridge canal Bridge and trainstation in Dublin
Broombridge Trainstation, Cabra
Performance/Audio Walk
December 2023
Site Specific
Attatched to the artist via a steel frame interface is a radio. As the artist moves their body throughout the site the signals picked up by said radio change, blend, merge and cancel out.
The performance commences with a calibration sequence under the bridge where the artist uses severeal Electromagnetic emmitters (A phone, a Magnifying Glass with LEDS, and a Work Light) to tune the radio attached to their body.
he arist then proceeds to walk from under the brige and search throughout the site, Their movement through the Radio space producing blankets of noise at points, picking up buzzing interference from the trains and electrical systems of the station and at certain vantage points amplifying the voices of english soccer commentators shot astray over longwave BBC Broadcasts.
On the other side of the tracks as the darknes begins to set the artist sets down a large red extendable pole and sets up a pulley wheel on its hooked end with the radio and speaker tied onto one end of a blue rope held tense through the wheel by the artist as they hold the pole. The artist swings and raises the radio unlockig a new mode of motion. As they pass over the bride to complete the loop they swing the radio over the cannal lowering and raising it closer and further away from the watter.
as the performance concludes in the same spot uner the bridge as it started you'd have to wonder, were any more quatrenions caught that day?
